⁉️ Did you know that every individual produces an average of 0.74 kg worth of solid waste per day according to the World Bank? A person in Japan, a country known for extreme convenience, can produce a higher-than-average amount of 0.89 kg worth of solid waste per day (Klein, 2021).

🌍♻️Reducing your daily waste can be hard as society strives towards convenience for humanity in today’s age. 

🧠 Thus, our event will introduce waste minimization via interactive workshops, and participants gain valuable insights from our expert panel discussions.

Guest Panelist Introduction

Lawrie Cate is a Computer scientist passionate about tackling social and environmental issues, currently working as the Chief Technology Officer at Mymizu. The company is on a mission to help people live more sustainably - in ways that are fun, easy, and good for the planet. By co-creating tools and community - like our free refill app - we’re building a world with cleaner oceans, healthier ecosystems, and happier people.

Taro Okamura joined Valuence in 2015 and has worked in multiple key functions such as business development, the president’s office, investor relations, and ESG. He is currently the head of the Strategic ESG Management of Valuence Holdings Inc., developing ESG and sustainability-related strategies and promoting activities. Taro has over 20 years of experience in business strategy and development. His past expertise includes direct foreign investment and market entries, product sourcing and development of consumer household products for major Japanese consumer product firms, and product management and marketing for a major European industrial product manufacturer. Taro holds a master’s degree in systems engineering and is currently a Ph.D. candidate specializing in international business at the International School of Business (ISM) based in Paris.

Philip Nguyen is the co-founder and CEO of Sustainability Page, a cleantech startup based in Japan and Estonia that helps businesses centralize their sustainability information and leverage crowd-sourced data to grow their impact. He studied environmental science and cultural studies at UCLA and holds a PhD from Kyoto University. Philip has been engaged in social entrepreneurship since 2016 after building his first venture-backed startup. He has also taught university courses on social entrepreneurship from 2019. In 2023, he launched his new startup, Sustainability Page, with a mission to normalize sustainability transparency and accelerate sustainability transformation.

Yuri Hirayama is passionate about education and sustainability. She is eager to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, and she is ambitious to pursue her career in sustainability and make an impact in the education world. Since she was a child, she has been a creative leader. She is good at making some products from recycled materials and teaching people how to make them as a project leader. Her current project is to make durable and fashionable sandals for people in need by using cutters and scissors and repurposing motorcycle tires and clothes. She is doing her best to improve the quality.
